Soldat, Army of the Republic of Haiti, 1915
This soldier wears a plain kepi without piping. His jacket is plain and simple with no decoration as this would have added to the cost of production.
His trousers are also plain in the red of the French army.
He is also armed with a Remington rifle.
The lack of equipment is not unusual. Equipment used seems to have been anything and everything the soldiers could get, although military equipment was available to some.
In contrast officers’ uniforms were dripping with gilt lace and braid.
